ROCK ICON PAUL McCARTNEY TO HEADLINE GRAND OPENING WEEKEND AT THE NEW JOINT AT HARD ROCK HOTEL & CASINO Tickets On-Sale Saturday, February 14 at noon The legendary Sir Paul McCartney will headline grand opening weekend of The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel & Casino on Sunday, April 19. “I’m looking forward to Rockin’ The Joint!” said Sir Paul McCartney. “We are honored to have the multi-Grammy award winning artist and rock legend, Paul McCartney, launch us into a new era of rock ‘n roll at the all new Joint concert venue scheduled to open at the Hard Rock Hotel & Casino in April,” said Randy Kwasniewski, President and COO of Morgans Hotel Group Las Vegas and Hard Rock Hotel & Casino. “The new Joint will be the most sophisticated, intimate, and authentic venue in Las Vegas‚ unlike anything the city has ever seen. “We could not have asked for a greater rock and roll legend than Paul McCartney to open The New Joint at Hard Rock Hotel,” said President & Co-CEO of Concerts West/AEG Live John Meglen. “The booking of Paul McCartney reinforces The Joint’s image as the legendary home of rock. The new venue will be THE place for artists to play and fans to experience a concert in Las Vegas.”
Tickets go on-sale Saturday, February 14 at noon at the Hard Rock Hotel Box Office, all Ticketmaster locations, online at Ticketmaster.com or charge-by-phone at 800-745-3000. The New Joint inherited its name from the legendary original Hard Rock venue and was designed by the renowned Montreal-based architectural design firm Sceno Plus. The New Joint will double in size while keeping the same atmosphere of the original venue and will carry on the up-close and authentic feel with the furthest seat in the house only 155 feet from the stage. The New Joint will be a multipurpose facility featuring a state-of-the-art sound system, an innovative lighting system, WiFi access throughout the venue, a full blogging station for press covering events, and 38 flat screens throughout the venue to guarantee the ultimate viewing experience. The New Joint’s $60 million project is part of the widely-publicized $750 million expansion the Hard Rock broke ground on in 2007; slated for completion in late 2009.
The occasion: Two nights after his acclaimed headline gig at Coachella, Paul McCartney rocked The Joint Sunday night, capping the opening weekend of the Hard Rock Hotel’s super-sonic $60 million venue that doubles the capacity of the same-named hall that closed in February. Sir Paul set a world record by selling out the house in seven seconds on Valentine’s Day. General admission tickets cost $195 to $700 (for suite seats) but fetched thousands from scalpers. It’s only love.
Macca the knife: McCartney, 66, remains a sharp and agile performer, his voice as supple, warm and elastic as ever. Trim in a black suit, white shirt and suspenders, he maintained a boyish energy and upbeat tone through the show’s briskly paced 2½-hour parade of 33 songs. While ably backed by longtime band mates Abel Laboriel Jr. on drums, Paul “Wix” Wickens on keyboards and Brian Ray and Rusty Anderson on guitars, McCartney was an eager heavy lifter. […]
