Line-up Discover Backing band 2001-2018

This was the second of two nights in Rio, and the latest concert from this South American leg.

From hqrock, translated from Spanish, May 24, 2011:

After performing for an audience of 45,000 people (according to época magazine‘s website) on Sunday, May 22, former Beatle Paul McCartney returned to Engenhão (João Havelange Olympic Stadium) in Rio de Janeiro for a second performance on Monday, May 23. […]

“British punctuality” is a great service offered by the musician. At exactly 9 pm the screens of Engenhão began to show a kind of clip with montages of images of McCartney, his family, his bands, other artists of the 1960s, as well as photographs of the most diverse audiences and newspaper clippings, to the sound of songs of his career. At precisely 9:30 p.m., the clip ended and the former Beatle and his friendly backing band took to the stage, starting with Magical Mystery Tour, a Beatles song from 1967.

Compared to the Porto Alegre show last year, McCartney was noticeably more tired. The band also seemed to have less vigour, at least in the first half of the show. There was also a “funny” moment when the group missed the ugly execution of Let me roll it song from the Wings days and that, on this tour, is amended to a short excerpt of Foxy lady from The Jimi Hendrix Experience and that allows the musician to show a little his skill (less known) of solo guitarist. Near the end of Let me roll it, the time of the drum beats change and this confused the band. In view of the error and the fact that they are very experienced musicians, the band immediately, almost by instinct, closed the track on time, in a way that probably most of the audience of tens of thousands of people of Engenhão on Monday did not even notice. However, the musicians kept looking at each other because Foxy lady was missing, so under the drummer’s misdemeanour laughs, the band started the latter alone, as a small instrumental interlude. […]

The setlist of the soundcheck remains unknown.
