Master release

On March 17, 2026, Paul McCartney announced two intimate concerts at The Fonda Theatre in Los Angeles, a venue with a capacity of 1,200, scheduled for March 27 and March 28. The announcement echoed the three shows Paul and his band had performed at The Bowery in New York in February 2025, another small-capacity venue.

However, on March 26 — the day before the first concert — Paul announced his new album “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane“. As a result, the Fonda Theatre shows appeared to be part of a broader marketing strategy to promote the album. A red double-decker bus branded “The Boys Of Dungeon Lane” was parked outside the venue, and merchandise related to the album was sold on site. Surprisingly, Paul did not perform any songs from the new album during the concerts, not even “Days We Left Behind“, the first single released the previous day alongside the album announcement.

I saw this new guy on Saturday. I went to see him at the theatre. It was full for him, so he’s doing pretty good. (laugh)

You and I were at the same concert the other night. We were both at Paul McCartney Rocks The Fonda. You enjoy it?

I did. Yeah. I loved it. I loved him being in a space that small, too. And the sound for me was great because it’s like the band was together. Because it was reflecting off the the walls say, you know, the speakers were going this way, bouncing back and it was like, it made it feel like it’s a Saturday night. You know, that’s what I love. I saw him, what was that record shop down Sunset?

Oh, Amoeba.

Amoeba. Yeah. Yeah. He played there once. And it was great because he had more time to be him there because you know someone to shout something to and and he’d shout something back because that’s what we do. That’s where we come from. He’s great at the big arenas, but I just love it in that size. No, it was nice.

Yeah. And it was funny. I was there, and I had heard murmurs that you were there and then I see everybody in the crowd. I was on the floor, turn around and go like this up at the balcony and I was like, I wonder who that’s to. Um, so that was cool. I’m glad you were there. What was it like to hear those songs that you worked on being played for you?

Well, I’ve heard them so many times. I mean, especially by him. I mean, you know, I’ve been to many of his gigs and uh, it’s how it is. It doesn’t get in my way. Abe does a fine job.

From Paul McCartney | News | PAUL McCARTNEY ROCKS THE FONDA, March 17, 2026

From Billboard, March 28, 2026:

Friday night (March 27) may have officially been billed as Paul McCartney Rocks the Fonda!, but it could have just as easily been called Paul McCartney Makes Everything Better!

Even if it was just for a little while (one hour and 40 minutes to be exact), it felt like the former Beatle made all the world’s troubles disappear within the tiny confines of the Fonda, where he is playing two nights to celebrate the 100th birthday of the 1,100-capacity Hollywood club.

The set was a truncated version of the 2025 Got Back tour, even down to the song order, slimmed down from 33 songs to a tight 21. […]

As McCartney, 83, touched on almost every facet of his musical career, he seemingly delighted in playing such a small gig, joking it was “good to see the whites of your eyes” to the audience. He convivially bantered with the first few rows, including giving a shoutout to fan attending his 146th show, and good-naturedly shutting down a loud balcony attendee getting a little too boisterous. He was loose throughout the show, breaking into short stories (including a humorous Tony Bennett anecdote) and just generally seeming to enjoy the audience as much as they enjoyed him. […]

On Thursday (March 28), McCartney released a new song, the tender, nostalgic “Days We Left Behind,” which is featured on his forthcoming 18th solo album, The Boys of Dungeon Lane — but the tune went left undone at the show, with McCartney saying they were still learning how to play it. Instead, he opted to play two songs from solo albums not featured during the Got Back tour: “Every Night” and “Flaming Pie.” […]

The no-phones policy and no-frills production (there was no projection of any kind, just a few overhead lighting trusses) allowed the audience to be just as in the moment as the band and a communal feeling of peace and joy felt like it spread from the stage all the way through the balcony, especially on late-show singalongs “Let It Be” and “Hey Jude.” […]

From Variety, March 28, 2026:

[…] What the attending 1,200 got with the 102-minute performance — besides eternal bragging rights — was a condensed version of the setlist McCartney did on his arena tour last fall in a much more intimate setting, plus a pair of rarer bonus tracks that usually show up only in occasional soundchecks (“Every Night” and “Flaming Pie”). Although they also got the chance to buy freshly minted merch with the logo of his forthcoming album, “The Boys of Dungeon Lane,” he did not premiere anything from that impending set, nor even play “Days We Left Behind,” which was just released Thursday as his first new single in five and a half years.

McCartney did mention “Days We Left Behind,” which led to the expectation he was about to play the nostalgic ballad, before he set the crowd straight. “We’re in the process of learning it, so don’t ask us to do it” he said, going on to explain what was giving him a little trouble in getting it down for live purposes. “And it’s in B, but I wrote it in C, but for some reason it’s in B.. I said, no, too much for me!” he quipped, apparently writing the disparity off as an Andrew Watt thing. Nonetheless, there were appreciative shouts about the new song, and McCartney replied, “I’m glad you love it.” […]

From The Hollywood Reporter, March 28, 2026:

[…] McCartney’s banter was warm and familial as ever, with Macca interacting directly with fans who shouted from the crowd and sharing memories from his uniquely traveled life, from his early days in Liverpool to his post-Beatles fame.

At one point, McCartney told a story about seeing Tony Bennett in concert, with Bennett doing a bit where he lauded the venue he was playing, saying, “You’ve got a beautiful acoustic in here,” and instructing the crew to turn off the mic so he could sing directly to the crowd.

I saw him later at a charity thing at the Beverly Hilton,” McCartney recalled, feigning disappointment when he saw Bennett give the hotel the exact same compliment again, as he once again sang off mic.

I believed him,” McCartney said as the crowd burst into laughter.

He recalled the early Beatles days as well, noting how in some of their first shows in America, they’d see the men staring intently at the guitars as they tried to learn chords.

The girls weren’t,” McCartney quipped as the women in the crowd let out screams. “Give us a Beatles scream,” McCartney responded, with the whole crowd now yelling. Fitting to the early Beatlemania vibe, he and the band jumped into “Love Me Do,” the band’s very first hit.

McCartney also shouted out Morgan Neville, who directed McCartney’s recent Man on the Run documentary and was in the crowd Friday night. “Well done Morgan,” McCartney said, joking that Neville would have to sing a song for the crowd.

From The Hollywood Reporter, March 28, 2026

It was incredible! He commented that the Fonda was a fun little spot and used to be called “the Hollywood Music Box” and said it was nice to see the whites of the audience’s eyes which felt like he appreciated the more intimate venue as much as the crowd did. He played a mix of music across his career and there were many tears in the audience with a collective realization of how special it was to be there seeing him.

There was also a fan in the front row who had a sign that said it was his 146th time seeing Paul McCartney. Paul called it out – also making a funny comment it seemed “a bit obsessive.” He was funny, sincere and the music was spot on/band was amazing and I will forever feel lucky to have had the experience. Lastly, we ran into the front row fan outside who had been given the set list as a token from the concert. He was so proud to have it. So cute!
