2015 in terms of McCartney news started on New Year’s Eve, with the surprise announcement of the first collaboration between Paul McCartney and Kanye West, the single “Only One“. It was followed, late January, by the announcement of “FourFiveSeconds“, another single with Kanye, featuring Rihanna on vocals and McCartney on acoustic guitar. The three of them performed “FourFiveSeconds” at the Grammy Awards in February. A third single with Kanye, “All Day“, was released in March and drove some controversy, due to the usage of the n-word. Working with Kanye West and Rihanna exposed Paul McCartney to a younger audience, and created a lot of media exposure.

From what we know, Paul McCartney didn’t spend much time recording new music in 2015. But he had another very active year on the touring front. For Valentine’s Day, he played a very intimate concert in New York for an audience of 200. In April, the “Out There” tour entered its third and final year – with a new leg in Japan / Korea, followed by European dates in May and June, and some US dates in June and October. McCartney also headlined a few summer festivals, like Firefly in Dover USA, Lollapalooza in Chicago, Roskilde in Denmark.

2015 also saw the re-release of the “Tug Of War” and “Pipes Of Peace” albums, as part of the Paul McCartney Archive Collection.

Regarding non-music matters, McCartney was quite active to promote his 6-year-old “Meat Free Monday” initiative, especially in light of the COP21 climate conference organized in Paris in December 2015, explaining on many occasions the benefit of reducing the consumption of meat to reduce the impact on the climate.

On the Beatles front, McCartney inducted Ringo Starr into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in April ; all Beatles’ videos and promo films were restored and reissued in the Beatles 1+ Video Collection ; and to close the year, the Beatle’s music catalog was made available on all major streaming platforms on December 24.
