THE ‘FRESHEN UP’ TOUR 2018
FIRST UK LIVE DATES IN THREE YEARS ANNOUNCED TODAYDecember 12th – Liverpool, UK – Echo Arena
December 14th – Glasgow, UK – SSE Hydro
December 16th – London, UK – O2 Arena“There’s nothing like performing in front of your home crowd, especially when it’s been a while. I can’t wait to finish the year on such a high by partying in Liverpool, Glasgow and London. We’ve freshened up the show since our last time round and we are excited to get to play some of our new songs along side some of the favourites.” – Paul
[…] Paul McCartney announced earlier this week that he’d be making his eagerly anticipated return to the road with his new ‘Freshen Up’ tour, starting in Canada this September. Today, Paul announces his first shows in the UK since 2015 – and his first Scottish concert in almost a decade.
From NME, December 16, 2018:
Ringo Starr has caused quite the stir amongst Beatles fans at Paul McCartney‘s London gig tonight, with the legendary musician being spotted by fans in the crowd.
McCartney is currently performing at London’s O2 Arena (December 16) in support of his latest record, ‘Egypt Station‘. The huge show follows recent performances in Liverpool and Glasgow.
Ahead of the Beatles icon taking to the stage, those in attendance reported a big commotion after McCartney’s former bandmate and pal Ringo was seen at the venue. Many were said to be snapping images of stickman Starr as they waited for the show to begin.
Journalist Howell Davies tweeted a photo of the drummer surrounded by excited fans, with the caption: “Mini Beatles reunion at The O2 tonight as Ringo Starr has turned up to watch Paul McCartney. Incredible.”
Proving to be an evening jam-packed with Rock ‘n’ Roll royalty, a follow-up post claimed that The Who‘s Roger Daltrey and The Rolling Stones‘ Ronnie Wood are also present.
McCartney’s fashion designer daughter Stella later took to Instagram to post an image of herself with Macca, Starr, Wood, and actor Emma Thompson. “Kick ass tonight dad,” she captioned the photo.
Reviewing Paul McCartney’s recent homecoming show earlier this week, NME‘s Gary Ryan said that the concert was “another example, surely, of Macca refusing to bow to the march of time”.
“In an interview to promote ‘Egypt Station’, he said he’d once ingested so many drugs, he saw the face of God. Judging by tonight’s transcendent gig, perhaps he just looked in the mirror.” […]
Before the concert, Paul was interviewed by Lindsey Russell who presented him with the prestigious Gold Blue Peter Badge.
This was the 2nd concert played at O2 Arena.
A total of 2 concerts have been played there • 2011 • Dec 5th • 2018 • Dec 16th
